Audition for The Three Feathers!

Lori Laitman's adaptation of Brother Grimm's The Three Feathers is full of whimsical charm. Be part of the magic this November by preparing 1 English aria and 1 monologue. (Please bring your own accompanist or a backing track)

SETTING
The Action takes place around 1800 in a small northern European kingdom adjacent to Fairy Tale Land. There are two sets: The court of a King The Frog King’s Underworld Running Time full opera: 83 minutes; Abridged: 43 minutes

SYNOPSIS

The Three Feathers presents the story of an old king with three daughters. To determine who will inherit the crown, each daughter is given a magic feather to pursue a series of challenges. The youngest daughter, the shy Princess Dora, is led by her magic feather three times into the Underworld to encounter the powerful Frog King. Each visit causes greater comic disruption among the strange denizens of the Underworld. Dora’s growing courage and confidence lead her both to love and victory.

HISTORY
The Three Feathers, a magical children’s opera in one act, was commissioned by the Center for the Arts at Virginia Tech, with support from the Virginia Commission for the Arts. The work premiered on October 17, 2014 at the Center for the Arts at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA, in a production directed by Beth Greenberg and conducted by Scott Williamson. Additional cast members for the full version include: The Baron de Beaucoup (Tenor/Fighter); Count Siegfried von Wintersturmen (Baritone/Fighter); Three Children’s Choruses of Frogs, Bats and Rats (min: 6 each); Two Snakes (Dancers/Hissers); Two Ministers (Tenor/Baritone — can be doubled by Baron and Count) and Guards, Ladies and Servants (Adult Chorus — min. 6) The full version of the opera is scored for a chamber orchestra comprised of Flute/Piccolo; Oboe; Bb Clarinet; Bassoon; 2 Trumpets in C; Trombone; Harp; Piano; Timpani; Percussion (Snare Drum, Chimes, Xylophone, Bass Drum, Gong, Triangle, Tambourine, Cymbals (Finger, Suspended and Crash); Violins 1 and 2; Viola; Cello and Double Bass. This 7 voice with piano version
